Asalyn Coachman stars at Black Philanthropy Month Event

August was Black Philanthropy Month and our own Asalyn Coachman was asked to be the Keynote Speaker for the Connecticut Community Foundation for Greater New Haven webinar event on August 25. She talked about the history of philanthropy among African Americans dating back to pre-colonial West Africa, through the period of segregation to present day. Black Americans donate a higher share of their wealth than Whites making charitable donations of almost $11 Billion a year. Philanthropy in the Black community is not new, it just has not been recognized and taught. Black Philanthropy Month was established in 2011 and is celebrated through events throughout the country. Great job Asalyn!
